3 Simple Zoom Tips to Record Dynamic Content

In this virtual landscape, if your filming options are limited, there are still ways to produce more dynamic interviews on Zoom.

Here’s a great example we helped produce with Beyond Measure Media.

Movement: One way to make a Zoom recording more dynamic is to bring more movement into your editing. For example, try panning through the participants or zooming in on one speaker. In Latino Network’s Noche Bella event, the interviews were all filmed in Zoom. But instead of a set of squares like you’d see on a Zoom call, Beyond Measure Media used editing software to seamlessly move from one Zoom speaker dialogue box into another. You first have to make sure the Zoom call between speakers is set to gallery view and, most importantly, is set to record. Once filmed, a video editor can use movement between the speakers to make your content more compelling.

Close-ups: Set your speakers up for success by making sure you have a clean close-up shot of each speaker. Remove any headroom above the speaker and have them position their camera so they take up the entire frame. To ensure great sound quality, be sure the speaker is no more than an arm’s length from their computer. Additionally, make sure they are facing a window, so they have natural light. This clean close-up image appears as though the speaker is interviewed on a film set. In Latino Network’s event, the camera slightly zoomed in to a specific speaker while still allowing the viewer to see the speaker in contrast with others on the Zoom call. This feels more engaging because rather than one speaker taking over the entire viewer’s screen, the viewer can still see the community in conversation with one another.

Isolation: Another way Latino Network was able to make their event more dynamic was by isolating a single dialogue box. In this particular case, as each speaker was shown individually, they added an overlay with their name and role, and included a border around the box.

These are just a few ways you can capture great virtual event interviews with Zoom that are more dynamic. Use these resources and discover the ways virtual events can help your organization. For more information, click here.
